Carnival Cruise Line has announced changes to the itineraries for three of its upcoming sailings on Carnival Horizon. The Carnival Horizon, initially scheduled to dock in Ocho Rios, Jamaica will now be rerouted to Falmouth, Jamaica, for its next three Western Caribbean sailings.

This itinerary change comes after rough weather conditions caused Carnival Magic to collide with the Ocho Rios Pier. The collision caused part of the Ocho Rios pier to collapse, necessitating repairs.

The affected sailings are scheduled for departure on February 11, February 25, and March 10. The sailings are 6-night voyages that include stops in George Town, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, Mexico.

Carnival notified guests of the change, stating, “We have made some temporary docking arrangements when your cruise visits Jamaica while repairs are completed on the pier in Ocho Rios,”

Despite the change in ports, the duration of the stay in Jamaica will remain unchanged, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each sailing. Carnival has assured guests that most shore excursions can still be preserved, with adjustments being made to accommodate the new port of call.

“The alternative call into Falmouth is nearby and ensures minimal impact to your experience and our arrival and departure times remain the same.” The email continued.

Ocho Rios and Foulmouth are located about an hour apart. Their close proximity means that many shore excursions will continue as scheduled or with altered timings.

The cruise line’s email reassured guests about their shore excursions stating, “Our shore excursions team is in touch with local tour operator partners and have confirmed that except for a few packages, we will be able to keep tours that were purchased for Ocho Rios,”

Additionally, Carnival Cruise Line has made itinerary adjustments for a total of eight ships over the coming weeks, affecting destinations beyond Jamaica, such as Grand Cayman, Puerto Rico, and Key West, due to various operational challenges, including port closures and new requirements imposed by some destinations.

These changes reflect the cruise line’s need to adapt to evolving conditions and ensure the safety and satisfaction of its passengers.

Ocho Rios is a prime cruise destination in Jamaica, known for its stunning landscapes, the famous Dunn’s River Falls, and a wealth of activities such as river tubing, dolphin swims, and exploration of the island’s rich cultural heritage. While Carnival Cruise Line’s adjustments affect the direct docking in Ocho Rios, the line continues to offer excursions and experiences designed to showcase the best of Jamaica to its guests.
