Welcoming Celebrity Apex

After months of anticipation and covid-related delays, Celebrity Apex finally made its long-awaited debut. The ship was christened in an official naming ceremony at a custom-built terminal at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

The ship’s godmother, Reshma Saujani, was on hand to welcome the ship. Saujani is the inspiring founder of the non-profit Girls Who Code and author of the best-selling book “Brave, Not Perfect.”

In attendance at the event were Celebrity’s President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo and Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group Richard Fain, as well as hundreds of guests, local dignitaries, influencers, and the media.

“This is a day that I’ve been looking forward to for years. Reshma is someone that I’ve admired deeply. She is an industry trailblazer that encapsulates what Apex stands for: pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, challenging stereotypes, and making everyone feel included”

Saujani’s effort to inspire young girls is being recognized by Celebrity Cruises onboard their vessels. As the godmother of the ship, Saujani will be involved in more than just the naming ceremony. In addition to its onboard STEM programming, the Camp at Sea program aboard Celebrity Apex will offer interactive coding activities for kids.

“Her work championing the advancement of women in an industry dominated by males has been nothing short of inspiring. It was deeply moving to watch as Reshma flawlessly executed her first official duty as Celebrity Apex’s Godmother, leading the ship’s naming ceremony that has been on hold since March 2020.”

After the celebration, Celebrity Apex embarked on a special two-night voyage to celebrate the launch of the second Edge-class vessel in Celebrity’s fleet.

The ship will now offer Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings with ports of calls that include Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Belize.
