Celebrity Cruises’ third Edge-class cruise ship, Celebrity Beyond, completes sea trials ahead of its April debut.

The new cruise ship is almost near completion and ready for her maiden voyage in less than three months. The ship returned to the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard following the successful sea trials. On April 27, 2022, Celebrity Beyond will set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton, England.

Celebrity Beyond Completes Sea Trials

Celebrity Beyond reached a new construction milestone after completing her sea trials. The latest ship in Celebrity’s fleet, and the third Edge-class vessel, is under construction at the Chartiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France.

According to a press release by Celebrity Cruises, the cruise ship “showcased that its strength, excellence, and superb sailing capabilities go beyond its breath-taking amenities.”

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to have completed this important milestone as it brings us that much closer to welcoming our guests onboard to enjoy their own ‘Journey WonderFULL,’ on the Celebrity Beyond,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “The Beyond showed why there is so much more to her than just her looks. Like her sister ships – the Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge – she went beyond what was needed to demonstrate she’s ready.”

The sea trials were completed under the watchful eye of more than 50 crew members, including Celebrity Beyond Captain Kate McCue. Following the sea trials, Captain Kate McCue said that “successfully completing these sea trials was a thrill of a lifetime for me.”

Captain Kate McCue is excited to take command of the vessel, noting the ships’ “smooth sailing and maneuverability is a testament to her innovative design and I can’t wait to take the helm of this awe-inspiring ship and take our guests to equally beautiful destinations.”

Celebrity said that the Beyond will not only hold the title of the largest ship in its fleet but the distinction as the brand’s “most luxurious vessel.”

Celebrity Cruises says that Beyond will not only be the largest vessel in the fleet but also hold the distinction as Celebrity’s “most luxurious vessel.”

Standing at 17 decks high and 21 meters longer than her sister ships Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex, and is also 10,000 gross tons heavier at 140,600 GT. Celebrity Beyond features significant innovations, redesigned amenities, and reimagined interior spaces; including:

• The Retreat, an exclusive area for suite guests, featuring a new two-story sundeck
• Transformational accommodations, from modern two-story villas with plunge pools and staterooms with Infinite Verandas, “blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living”
• An expanded Rooftop Garden and resort deck featuring cantilevered float pools
• A multi-level, multi-terraced Sunset Bar on the ship’s aft designed by Nate Berkus
• Daniel Boulud’s first restaurant at sea called Le Voyage
• Redesigned Grand Plaza spanning three decks
• The Magic Carpet Restaurant, suspended on the side of the ship

The ship features a unique Parabolic Ultrabow, first seen on her sister ships, Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge. The design replaces the traditional bulbous bow with a parabolic shape that provides smoother sailing and fuel savings.

Celebrity Beyond’s maiden voyage will depart on April 27, 2022. The ship will take passengers on a 10-night Western European voyage leaving from the ship’s homeport of Southampton. The ship will visit Bordeaux, France; Lisbon, Portugal; Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Barcelona, Spain.

After her maiden voyage, Celebrity Beyond will offer a series of Mediterranean cruises, including 9-night Italian Riviera and France itineraries and 10-cruises around the Greek Isles. In early October, the ship will cross the Atlantic and offer Caribbean sailings throughout the winter.
