Norwegian Cruise Line announces pop icon Katy Perry as the godmother to the cruise line’s newest ship, Norwegian Prima.

In addition to fulfilling the maritime tradition of officially naming the Norwegian Prima, Katy Perry will be performing at the christening ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Anticipation is growing ahead of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship. The recent announcement that Katy Perry will serve as the cruise ships’ godmother adds to the already sky-high excitement.

The global pop icon will participate in the traditional naming ceremony on August 27, 2022. She will also be performing at the christening – the first cruise ship christening in Iceland’s capital.

“We are so excited to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind artist and worldwide sensation, as godmother of Norwegian Prima,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of NCL. “We are so incredibly proud that she will be part of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and look forward to launching our beautiful, innovative ship with her in August.”

As godmother, Katy Perry will fulfill her duties of blessing and officially naming Norwegian Prima. Perry will take part in the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle on the ship’s bow to bid the vessel and its travelers good fortune.

Perry is a fan of vacationing at sea. Speaking about her position as the ship’s godmother, Perry stated, “My most favorite way to vacation with my family is on the water. Every morning that you wake up, you get to experience an incredible new view,” said Katy Perry. “I love that I get to christen her with my good vibrations, and I’m so excited for this new, beautiful, high-end, high-tech ship to take the seas, and provide once-in-a-lifetime vacations for so many families.”

Norwegian Prima will host the first ship naming ceremony in Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik.

Before stopping in Reykjavik, the ship will complete her maiden voyage departing from Amsterdam, Netherlands, on August 17, 2022. Prima’s maiden voyage includes calls in Brussels in Belgium, Bergen and Geiranger in Norway, and Akureyri and Isafjordur in Iceland.

Norwegian Prima is the first of six Prima-class vessels ordered by Norwegian Cruise Line.

The new cruise ship will offer inaugural voyages to Northern Europe starting August 2022 before crossing the Atlantic in mid-October. Beginning October 6, 2022, Prima will provide passengers with Bermuda sailings from New York City, followed by Caribbean voyages from Galveston, Texas, and Miami, Florida, starting October 27, 2022.

The vessel features a sleek new design that NCL says takes it to a new era of cruising. The cruise ship has a high-end ambiance compared to NCL’s older vessels.

It offers a vast suite complex at the back of the ship and is the first in the fleet to eliminate the standard main dining room with rotating menus. Instead, Hudson’s specialty restaurant features a fixed menu and is what Sommer calls “the largest specialty dining room at sea.”

Party-goers will love Norwegian Prima for its expansive pool and outdoor space that double as a theatre or nightclub. The ship features a three-level go-kart track and multi-story freefall dry slides for families and thrill-seekers.

Prima is 142,500 GT with a guest capacity of 3,215 at double occupancy.
