Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has selected two-time Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet as the godfather of its newest ship, Norwegian Aqua. The actor will lead the christening ceremony on April 13, 2025, in Miami, Florida, by breaking a champagne bottle across its bow.
Eric Stonestreet Named as Godfather of Norwegian Aqua
Stonestreet is best known for his role as Cameron Tucker on the television series “Modern Family.” The actor expressed his enthusiasm for the honor, stating, “I am honored to be named the godfather of Norwegian Aqua and to play my part in the journey of bringing this new ship to life.” He continued, “I am blown away by what’s in store for Norwegian Aqua and I cannot wait to take a ride on the Aqua Slidecoaster, indulge in some red curry at the all-new Sukhothai and most importantly create lifelong memories with my own family while on board this innovative new ship.”
The tradition of naming a ship’s godparent is a longstanding maritime custom. It symbolizes good fortune and safe travels for the vessel and its passengers. The vessel’s christening ceremony will take place on April 13, 2025, in Miami, Florida, where Stonestreet plays an important role.
As godfather, the actor will lead the christening ceremony by breaking a champagne bottle across the ship’s bow to bless the ship and all who sail on her.
David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, shared his enthusiasm for Stonestreet, officially welcoming him to the NCL family. He highlighted Stonestreet’s alignment with the company’s values, stating, “we had an amazing time with Eric on one of our ships, and also got to spend some time with his charming family after. Over the past couple of months, Eric has become a true friend of NCL. Eric’s authenticity, wit, charm and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honored to have Eric as the godfather of Norwegian Aqua!”
